I wanted to play this song live on radio but because of time constraints it didn’t happen. This is a consolation prize for all of you.
A cold winter’s night
On the 29th, Nick Chim will be launching his debut album of folk music, and playing a full series of songs from his album. Set against a leading-edge and expanding fanbase for folk music, especially in Singapore, Nick’s experimentally visual and artistic approach towards illustrating his music in various mediums such as installation art and experimental video, will result in a visually stellar experience that is experientially satisfying.
On the 29th of August, Biennale 2008 artist, Rage, will be involved in ritualistic performance art, as a tribute to nick chim. With the use of mental constraints and physical dependencies, Rage will attempt to experience true artistic restraint, with the help of derivative efforts.
On the 29th, The Proletariat Poetry Factory will be setting up shop at the 29 Cornflakes – Portraits of Nick Chim event. With a collective of poets and Supreme Controllers, all participants in the Proletariat Poetry Factory will be donning their red boiler suits, in an effort to manufacture and remain pure to the system of poetry sales, based on the inspiration of people’s given words.
On the 29th, Kristal Melson will be exhibiting some of her illustrated work, inline with the show’s theme, Portraits of Nick Chim. Having already exhibited in small shows in L.A. and Melbourne, for magazines like Curvy, Kristal will be contributing several of her latest works for this upcoming show.
On the 29th, Djulian will be paying tribute to the show’s theme, Portraits of Nick Chim, by exhibiting a series of location-based photos where Nick Chim has cursed and dismissed, without any significant physical trace. By depicting these empty spaces without any explicit subject, the absence of Nick Chim speaks about the thematic dissonance which is inherently left behind by each of us, in our darkest moments.
On the 29th, Vargus Pike – always known to be colourful, exciting and loud – will be personally experimenting with large quantities of gelatin, in order to examine if it could possibly be that solidified water should somehow contain the answer to the most primitive understanding of language. By interacting, consuming and speaking into large quantities of gelatin, it is the hope of Vargus Pike, that existence can be better understood by exploring extremities in these preset conditions. All these artists are represented by 29 Cornflakes, which manages artists who specialize in various creative disciplines, and was started in order to develop creatively self-sustainable projects. Ranging from artiste management for musicians to group and individual artiste management for illustrators, fine artists, installation and performance artists, our goal is to develop in-house projects for the various artistes we manage, in order to be self-sufficient in all areas.
3pm – LIVE artist performance by Biennale artist, Rage
4.30pm – LIVE performance by Vargus Pike (exploratory sequences of language with gelatin as an impression of nick)
7pm – LIVE performance by Nick Chim
There will also guest art installations by hjgher, available for viewing the entire duration of the event.
